    “Dan teric/Days of women scutching flax” is the event with ethnographic presentations of the linen processing which also educates people about local history. During the event processing of linen is shown; it is performed by the locals wearing traditional costumes.

    The best eggs for decorating should be smooth so the colour sticks evenly. First, the eggs are blown out: piercing the shell on both ends and blowing out from one of either hole, so the contents spill out.


  • Wooden Houses with Traditional Ornamental Painting in Čičmany 48.955830, 18.516571

    Traditional timber houses in Čičmany are famous for their ornamental decorations. The ornaments are inspired by the local embroidery tradition. Owners of private houses preserve the objects in their original state and maintain the spirit and a representative symbol of the village. In 2013, the Čičmany ornament was inscribed on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovakia. Selected ornaments were used for the design of the dresses of the Slovak Olympic team (London 2012, Sochi 2014).

    The folk art of Gorenjska Region is showcased by artistically and exceptionally well crafted items for everyday use, which are based on their primary function in everyday life, arranged into four chapters, namely folk architecture of the Gorenjska region, the interior furniture of the apartments, the festive and work areas of a typical Gorenjska person and his spiritual culture.


  • Juraj Jánošík Jánošíkova družina

    (baptized Jan 25 1688 in Varín – executed Mar 18 1713 in Liptovský Mikuláš) was a legendary Slovak thief, who later became a part of folklore. In years 1707 and 1708 he took part in the uprising of Francis II. Rákoczi, later became a member of an imperial army. In 1710 he begins to brigand in the band of Tomáš Uhorčík, in 1711 he becomes a leader of this band. He was executed by hanging by the left rib in 1713. During Romanticism Jánošík´s story was commonly used motif used by writers of the Slovak national movement. In the folk tradition, there is plenty of songs, legends (often with miriculous motif) and paintings on glass with depictions from the Jánošík legend. The most dominant message of the Jánošík tradition is an emphasis on social righteousness.
