The Slovak Mining Museum was founded in 1974 at the location of original mining shafts named Ondrej from the 16th century and Bartolomej from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is situated 2 km away from Banská Štiavnica near the Klinger Lake. It is an open-air museum with an above ground and underground expositions. The visitor can visit original buildings with showrooms of mining workplace and mining equipment from the 16th century to the present days, and two underground shafts. The museum reflects rich mining traditions of the region which was a world-famous centre of mining innovation in the 17th and 18th  centuries.
